Who are Earth9 – an Origin Story
During lockdown, Darren Baggett (the now CEO of Earth9), went on a mission to find a way to use his time to have a positive impact on climate change. What he found were pieces of the solution, and a whole lot of venture capitalist backing in the space – with the objective to supporting ‘for profit’ enterprises.
This didn’t feel right.
Darren believed that businesses in the space should be ran for good, so he decided to start his own, with a clear mission and with a few simple pledges.
The mission:
To empower individuals, businesses and schools to restore the wild, help capture carbon and bring back balance to our planet. To work alongside nature-based projects, and help support local communities to restore forests on a massive scale, remove plastic from the oceans, thereby creating jobs, protecting ecosystems, and helping mitigate climate change.
Our pledges:
- To lead – to ‘forward buy’ any good, to invest funds in exciting new climatech solutions, and to bring to market innovative solutions to help people engage and be rewarded for their participations in our programmes.
- To run a lean, scalable business – and to ensure at least 80% of our total revenue goes to support the environment. Whether this is tree planting, plastic removal from the ocean, supporting carbon reduction. We are for the planet, not venture capitalist profits.
- And most importantly to be ‘for good’ – to be a Social Enterprise who will invest at least 51% of our profits back to nature based projects and climate technology of the future.

We hope you can join us on our journey.
